FALMOUTH — Senior midfielder Cassie Darrow scored in each half to lift No. 2-seed Falmouth to a 2-1 victory over No. 6 Gray-New Gloucester on Saturday in a Western Class B semifinal.
The Yachtsmen (12-2-2) move on to the regional final against top-ranked Morse (14-1-1) in Bath on Wednesday.
Darrow collected a through pass from Maggie Bohrmann at midfield and drove toward the net, unleashing a strike from 15 yards to give Yachtsmen a 1-0 lead with 7:33 to play in the first half.
Gray-New Gloucester sophomore Caitlin Holmquist tied it at 1 about six minutes into the second half. Maria Valente created the opportunity with a long throw into Falmouth’s penalty area. The Yachtsmen cleared the ball, but Holmquist stepped up to send the ball back in. Her chip from about 30 yards fell in just under the crossbar.
The goal gave the Patriots (6-7-1) momentum and forced back-and-forth play. The Yachtsmen slowly regained the upper hand, with Darrow driving a hard, left-footed shot from the top of the box into the far, bottom right corner with 5:09 to play.
The Yachtsmen controlled play from there.
