Deer Isle man convicted of molesting girl

The Associated Press

ELLSWORTH — A former school bus driver from Deer Isle has been convicted of sexually assaulting a girl over several years when she was between 4 and 8 years old.

Larry Bunt was convicted in Hancock County Superior Court this week of multiple counts of gross sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact.

The judge sentenced Bunt to six years in prison, 10 years probation, 14 years to the Department of Corrections and he must register as a sex offender for life.

Prosecutors say the molestation occurred from 2000 to 2004.

The victim, now a teenager, came forward last year.

WABI-TV reports that the conviction was based partially on a recorded phone call between the teen and Bunt in which he said what he did was wrong.

Authorities have said the 53-year-old Bunt did not meet the victim through his job as a bus driver.
