Day care operator’s spouse faces sex abuse charges

Maine State Police have arrested the husband of a day care operator on sex abuse charges involving three children who went to the day care.

Police say Horace Barstow, 67, of Norridgewock was charged Friday with three counts of unlawful sexual contact with children younger than 12. He was released on bail from the Somerset County Jail on Monday.

Officials say Barstow’s wife operates the ABC 123 Daycare from their home in Norridgewock. A detective is interviewing parents of current and past students to determine whether additional charges are warranted.

Barstow was a sheriff’s deputy in Somerset County for many years, retiring from a full-time position in the 1990s, according to Somerset County Commissioner Phil Roy.

Man arrested in robbery of downtown Dunkin Donuts

Portland police charged a local man with robbing the Dunkin Donuts at One City Center on Sunday just before 6 p.m.

The man threatened that he had a gun and demanded all the money in the register. But the clerk – instead of complying – retreated to a back room.

The man was masked but when police reviewed the security video they saw someone with the same clothes and matching the description in the shop earlier without a mask.

Police circulated the photo among officers and identified the suspect as Zachary Tuttle, 22.
