Equipment malfunction causes Portland power outage

PORTLAND — An equipment failure and subsequent fire at the Bishop Street substation in Portland caused more than 5,200 Central Maine Power Co. customers to lose power Thursday night.

Central Maine Power said the outage was reported at 9:30 p.m. The power loss affected the Morrills Corner neighborhood of Portland as well as a portion of Falmouth.

Most everyone had their power restored by 10:30 p.m.
