PORTLAND — Ethicist Rushworth Kidder died Monday at the age of 67.

Kidder was the president and founder of the Institute for Global Ethics in Rockport and the author of several books about ethical decision-making.

The institute today confirmed that Kidder had died in Florida, where he has a residence.

No other details about Kidder’s death were immediately available, but the organization plans to release more information today.

Before founding the institute in 1990, Kidder was a senior columnist and features editor for The Christian Science Monitor. During his tenure at the paper, he produced a series of interviews with leading thinkers that evolved into an ethics beat.

His most recent book, “Good Kids, Tough Choices: How Parents Can Help Their Children Do the Right Thing,” was published in 2010.

Kidder lived with his wife, Elizabeth, in Lincolnville. The couple had two grown children.
