Farmingdale man died of gunshots to head and neck

A Farmingdale man who allegedly shot at residents inside a neighbor's home died as a result of gunshot wounds to the head and neck.

A spokeswoman for the Maine Medical Examiner's Office confirmed today that Paul A. Fritze, 41, died when bullets hit him in the head and neck. The manner of death was homicide, which simply means the wounds were not self-inflicted.

Maine State Police Trooper Timothy Black, a member of the State Police Tactical Team, has been placed on paid administrative leave after he reportedly shot Fritze outside his neighbor's home. Fritze allegedly confronted police before he was shot. Investigators have not said whether or not he was holding a weapon.

Police officers involved in a shooting are typically placed on leave during the investigation, which is being conducted by the Attorney General's Office.
