Ann LePage, wife of Republican gubernatorial nominee Paul LePage, is being investigated in Florida for an alleged homestead property tax violation, according to Volusia County tax officials.
Morgan Gilreath, property appraiser for Volusia County, said he had begun an investigation after being tipped off from a newspaper story.
"We've got a file going on the situation now," he said earlier this week in an interview with MaineToday Media.
Ann LePage, who owns property in both Waterville and Ormond Beach, Fla., applied for and received what is called a homestead exemption on both properties, claiming each was her permanent residence. The issue was first reported in the Kennebec Journal last week.
Paul LePage, mayor of Waterville, lives in the Maine residence.
