Retired Justice Souter still packing them in

There's a long waiting list for Souter's free series of seminars called "Constitutionally Speaking" in September.

CONCORD, N.H. — It appears that retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice David Souter can still draw a crowd, selling out seats for his September talk in Concord, N.H., on civic engagement.

Souter is headlining a series of seminars called "Constitutionally Speaking."

Registration for the 850 seats at the Concord City Auditorium filled within a week and spilled over onto a waiting list topping 350 for the free event.

Souter, who lives in Hopkinton, helped found the New Hampshire Institute for Civic Education — offering professional development courses to teachers. His institute sponsors the civic engagement initiative along with the New Hampshire Supreme Court Society, UNH School of Law and the New Hampshire Humanities Council.

The Sept. 14 event features a conversation between Souter and PBS Emmy-Award winning senior correspondent Margaret Warner.
