Freeport woman drives car into a pond

The elderly woman is checked out by firefighters, who escort her home after the mishap

FREEPORT — Freeport firefighters came to the rescue of an elderly woman who drove her car into a pond off Rowe Court late Wednesday night.

Lt. Jay Rumery said the woman’s car wound up in about a half foot of water. Firefighters checked the woman out to make sure she was not injured before escorting her to her home on Rowe Court.

The accident took place around 9:30 p.m. The pond is located off Main Street almost directly across the street from the Central Fire Station.
