WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Actress Glenn Close, a part-time Scarborough resident, and husband David Shaw are being honored by The College of William & Mary for their contributions to the arts.

Close is a 1974 William & Mary graduate. She and her husband, a biotech entrepreneur, will receive the 2013 Cheek Medal Award in late September.

Close also will headline the university’s Arts & Entertainment Festival. While on campus, she will meet with students and faculty from theater, speech, dance, film and media studies. She also will teach a theater master class and lead a discussion of translating a liberal arts degree into a film career.

Close is a six-time Academy Award nominee. Among her film credits are “Fatal Attraction” and “Dangerous Liaisons.”

She’s won three Emmys, most recently for the lead role in the television series “Damages.”
