LEWISTON — Nearly two dozen hot air balloons are taking to the air in central Maine for the 21st annual Great Falls Balloon Festival.
Organizers are expecting 21 balloons for this year’s festival, which kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday in Lewiston and Auburn.

Balloons are scheduled to launch each day at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The balloons are tethered each afternoon so people can get up-close looks at them.
The festival draws about 100,000 people each year. Good weather is expected through the weekend.
