IRS, FBI raid Swedenborgian church in Boston

The federal agencies won't say what they are looking for, but say that it's unrelated to the Boston bombings.

The Associated Press

BOSTON — Investigators from the FBI and Internal Revenue Service are conducting an operation at the Swedenborgian Church on Boston's Beacon Hill.

Jessica Crocker, a spokeswoman for IRS Criminal Investigations, would not comment on the nature of Thursday's raid except to say it was not related to terrorism or the Boston Marathon bombings.

An FBI spokeswoman called it an "ongoing investigative matter."

The Church On the Hill is run by the Boston Society of the New Jerusalem and has been at its present Bowdoin Street location for more than 165 years. A message left with the church was not immediately returned.

Barbara Wade, who said she was not a church member, said she was helping run a bingo game for seniors when agents entered and asked them to leave. An agent told her they were looking for records.
