Intoxicated fan causes scene at Sea Dogs game

The man is taken to the Cumberland County Jail after police use pepper spray to subdue him

PORTLAND — A spectator at the Sunday afternoon Portland Sea Dogs baseball game was forcibly removed from Hadlock Field after getting into a confrontation with security personnel and Portland police.

Lt. Gary Hutcheson said Christopher Chappell, 34, of Poland faces multiple charges as a result of the incident.

Hutcheson said Officer Thomas Kwok had to escort Chappell from the bleachers after he began using “vulgar language” near several young children. Hutcheson said Chappell was intoxicated.

When Chappell tried to re-enter the stadium, Kwok confronted him and they “tussled.” Kwok used pepper spray to subdue Chappell.

Chappell  was taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where he was charged with disorderly conduct, refusing to submit to arrest and criminal trespassing. At the jail, Chappell was charged with unlawful possession of drugs.

The incident took place around 4:15 p.m. near the end of the Sea Dogs game against the Binghamton Mets – a game the Sea Dogs lost by a score of 5-3.
