PORTLAND — Kevin Joyce was unopposed in his bid to become Cumberland County’s next sheriff.

Joyce is a 24-year veteran of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. He has held the post of chief deputy since 2003.

“I am thrilled that I will be leading the Sheriff’s Office in its mission to serve and protect citizens of Cumberland County. I am fortunate we have a great team in place and this transition will be seamless,” Joyce said in a prepared statement.

Joyce steps into the post held by Mark Dion for a dozen years. Dion announced earlier this year that he will not seek another term.
