WILTON — State economic adviser Lawrence Dwight Jr. has been charged with domestic assault, prompting Gov. Paul LePage to call for his resignation.

Dwight, of Wilton, a member of the Consensus Economic Forecasting Commission, was arrested Saturday after an incident involving his wife. Dwight was taken to Franklin County Jail and released Sunday on $250 bail.

LePage issued a statement Tuesday in which he said he expects Dwight will voluntarily step down from his position while the legal issues regarding his arrest are pending. LePage said he doesn’t want the allegations to interfere with the work of the Consensus Economic Forecasting Commission.

Dwight told the Sun Journal of Lewiston he expects to be “completely exonerated.”

The appointed panel prepares economic forecasts for the governor and Legislature. Dwight was appointed in May.
