LePage cheers tax rating in weekly message

The Associated Press

AUGUSTAGov. Paul LePage called a new report that said Maine's tax-friendly rating has improved "a glimmer of hope."

In his weekly radio address, the Republican governor said the Washington-based Tax Foundation report lifting Maine from the 37th to 30th place for its business tax climate is a positive sign that will create jobs for Mainers.

Democratic Rep. Seth Berry of Bowdoinham says the Tax Foundation's ranking is no surprise given the group's conservative ideology. Berry says the tax cuts for the rich and corporations it supports have failed to create jobs nationally and in Maine.
