AUGUSTA — Gov. Paul LePage helped unveil a new advertising campaign today to reduce domestic violence.
A newly produced video ad to be broadcast as a public service announcement features photos of murdered women and children and LePage standing with a group of men who denounce the violence.
“The effects of the violence is devastating and long-lasting,” LePage said while presenting the ad today. LePage was a victim of domestic abuse as a child and has spoken about the need for men to oppose violence, including during his State of the State Address last week.
LePage said today he hopes to “get all men in our state to stand up, speak up and man up against domestic violence.”
The video was produced within the last two weeks by Ryan Pomerleau, owner of Maine Video On Demand in Oakland.
Its final photograph shows Amy Lake with her children, Cody and Monica. All three were killed by Lake’s husband in Dexter last June, and the triple murder has renewed legislative efforts to increase protection for families.
The LePage administration is expected to introduce its own anti-domestic violence bill later this month.
