Head-on crash sends six to hospital

LYMAN – Two sport-utility vehicles crashed head on Monday afternoon, shutting down Hill Road for several hours and sending six people to the hospital.

The crash occurred at noon when a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling south on Hill Road struck a Chevrolet Suburban traveling in the opposite direction. The Trailblazer appeared to cross the center line and hit the Suburban, which was pulling an 18-foot boat, according to Major Bill King of the York County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Trailblazer, 38-year-old Thomas Haig of Waterboro, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, as were his daughters, ages 10 and 12.

Taylor Solari, 18, of Kennebunkport, the driver of the Suburban, was also extricated from his vehicle. He and two passengers were also transported to the Biddeford hospital.

Around 5:30 p.m., Major King said Haig was listed in "critical condition." He didn't know the conditions of the other five victims.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office. The crash shut down Hill Road as authorities investigated and cleaned up fuel that leaked from the vehicles.

At 11:15 p.m., the York County Sheriff's Office said it still had no more information to share. The hospital declined to give updates on victims.

Police will try to reconstruct the crash scene, King said.
