AUGUSTA — Maine Attorney General Janet Mills is the keynote speaker for the annual observance at the Maine Law Enforcement Officers Memorial next to the State House.

Thursday’s event marks the 24th year that an observance has been held to honor the 83 law enforcement officers who’ve died in the line of duty in Maine.

No new names were added this year to the memorial.

Deaths have occurred in airplane crashes, gun battles, car chases and drownings. The Maine Warden Service has 15 names on the memorial, the most of any department, followed by state police with 10.
