AUGUSTA — Maine Attorney General Janet Mills was named woman of the year by an organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to seek office.
Emerge Maine honored Mills for her long career in public service by awarding her its annual Woman of the Year award.
Emerge Maine says Mills became the first woman district attorney in Maine in 1980 at the age of 32 and went on to serve in the state House of Representatives and as vice-chair of the Maine Democratic Party. She is now serving as attorney general for the second time.
