BELFAST — A 20-year-old Maine man has been convicted of criminal recklessness in the fatal shooting of his best friend.
After more than five hours of deliberations, a jury on Friday found Luke Bryant guilty in the shooting of Tyler Seaney, in Knox last year.
Bryant initially told police he picked up the .12-gauge shotgun to clean it but later said he dry-fired it to scare his friend as he emerged from the bathroom. The girlfriend told investigators she'd seen them play the game before.
The Bangor Daily News reports that a prosecutor said Seaney's family is very satisfied with the verdict.
The defense attorney said he was disappointed with the outcome and may consider an appeal.
Bryant is being held without bail. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 3. He faces between four and 30 years in prison.
