Man accused of more than 50 hunting, fishing crimes

Authorities say 38-year-old Joseph Deleskey has been involved in the illegal killing or wounding of more than a dozen deer.

AUGUSTA — A Mount Vernon man authorities say had a "complete disregard" for Maine's hunting laws has been indicted by a Kennebec County grand jury on more than 50 counts of fish- and wildlife-related crimes.

The Maine Warden Service says 38-year-old Joseph Deleskey faces charges including possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, criminal trespass, hunting deer after having killed one, and driving deer.

The indictment was the result of an 18-month investigation into the alleged illegal hunting activities of Deleskey and several relatives and friends.

Authorities allege he has been involved in the illegal killing or wounding of more than a dozen deer.

Lt. Dan Scott of the Warden Service says Deleskey appears to have a "complete disregard" for hunting laws and has an impact on the local deer populations.
