Brewer men get probation for stealing from luggage

The Associated Press

BANGOR — Two Maine men have been sentenced to probation and ordered to pay more than $600 in restitution for stealing electronics from bagging they were handling at Bangor International Airport.

Jarred Sproul and Timothy Mullen were sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Bangor. The men, who are 25 and from Brewer, pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to commit theft from interstate shipments.

The Bangor Daily News reported the pair in 2006 stole digital cameras and other electronic items from luggage they handled while employed by Piedmont Airlines and then sold the items on the eBay.

Prosecutors said Sproul and Mullen stole more than $5,000 worth of goods, but that many of the stolen items were recovered and returned to their owners.
