PORTLAND — Trader Joe’s will be opening its new store in Portland on Oct. 29.

It’s news that’s likely to cause a few fainting spells among the store’s devoted fans, who have been waiting months for the old Wild Oats Store at 87 Marginal Way to be transformed into the land of Two Buck Chuck and Hawaiian shirts.

Trader Joe’s spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki said the Portland store will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. She said more information will be released sometime next week about the grand opening, which will feature a lei-cutting ceremony and other festivities.

The Portland store has completed hiring its staff, Mochizuki said, and refrigeration, freezers and shelves have been installed.

Trader Joe’s is known for its hand-painted murals that reflect scenes from the local community. Mochizuki said the Portland store will incorporate images of Casco Bay, sailboats and lighthouses.

The phone number at the new store will be 699-3799.
