Maine pot crop called large

MEXICO — Police in Western Maine say there could be a bumper crop of marijuana this season, despite the dry weather.

Oxford County Marijuana Eradication Coordinator Chancey Libby tells the Sun Journal of Lewiston that police are finding that plants cultivated outdoors are doing much better than in the past two years.

Libby says that because of the lack of rain this summer, people who cultivate marijuana have to work harder to grow it, which increases the risk of getting caught.

As of Wednesday, state and local law enforcement officers in Oxford County had seized 1,318 marijuana plants, four pounds of processed marijuana and three guns. In Franklin County, officers seized 161 plants and eradicated 1,134 pot plants.
