BOSTON — With April 15 falling on a state holiday, Massachusetts and Maine residents have been given an extra day to meet the deadline for filing their state income taxes.

But the same is not true for federal taxes.

Monday is Patriots Day, a legal holiday in Massachusetts and Maine marking the first battles of the Revolutionary War. State offices will be closed that day.

State tax returns can be filed through Tuesday, April 16.

But a spokeswoman for the IRS says the federal tax deadline remains Monday, the same as the rest of the nation.
