President Barack Obama has nominated a Maine woman to serve as the United States ambassador to the Republic of Haiti.
Pamela Ann White, a native of Auburn and a graduate of the University of Maine, is the President’s choice to serve in the post.
White currently serves as the U.S. Ambassador to The Gambia, a country in West Africa.
White is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. She has attained the rank of career minister.
“Pam White has 35 years of experience in countries throughout Africa since she began a career of public service in the Peace Corps in Cameroon. She is a true diplomat and I’m confident that she will represent the United States well in Haiti,” said Maine Congresswoman Chellie Pingree.
“It’s great to see that a Mainer has been selected to serve in this important position,” added Congressman Mike Michaud.
