ALBANY, N.Y. — Authorities say a Portland, Maine, woman has been killed and 26-year-old man is hospitalized after their vehicle crashed following a music festival they attended in eastern New York.

State police say 26-year-old Alisha Makepeace of Portland was driving in the Thruway’s eastbound lanes near Exit 24 in Albany Sunday night when the vehicle drifted from the center lane into the median, where it struck the end of a guard rail. Troopers say the rail penetrated the vehicle, killing Makepeace and seriously injuring her passenger, 26-year-old David Melnick of New Hampshire.

Melnick is being treated at Albany Medical Center. Troopers say his hometown wasn’t available. The vehicle was registered out of Londonderry, N.H.

Troopers say Makepeace and Melnick had attended the Camp Bisco Music Festival in Mariaville in rural Schenectady County.
