After winning three Grammy Awards during his 45-year career as a mastering engineer, Maine’s Bob Ludwig captured four more Sunday night.

Ludwig’s wins Sunday were:

• Record of the Year for “Get Lucky” by Daft Punk with Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers.

• Album of the Year for “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk.

• Best Historical Album for “Charlie is My Darling – Ireland 1965” by The Rolling Stones.

• Best Engineered Album, non-classical, for “Random Access Memories” by Daft Punk.

He also had a nomination this year for Best Engineered Album, non-classical, for “Annie Up” by Pistol Annies.

Ludwig, who runs Gateway Mastering in Portland, was at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. For Record of the Year and Album of the Year, Ludwig was seen on stage with the artists and other contributors. But he got his other Grammys off camera, during a presentation before the televised ceremony.

Ludwig won last year in the category of Album of the Year for “Babel” by Mumford & Sons. He had also won two other Grammy Awards, in the best surround sound album category.

Ludwig has worked on dozens of Grammy-winning recordings in his career, but mastering engineers are only eligible to be nominated in five categories.

Mastering is the last step in the recording process, where fine adjustments are made to improve the recording’s sound.
