BIDDEFORD — More than 275 competitors ranging from 14 to 72 years old are ready to gut it out in this year's 5th Annual Mainiac Sprint Triathlon & Duathlon in Biddeford Pool.
Sunday's event will also serve as part of the North East Collegiate Triathlon Championship. Athletes from MIT, Northeastern, University of Vermont and more than a dozen states are among those competing.
The event's hosted by the Kennebunk Beach Triathlon Club and proceeds go to the Northern York County YMCA.
The triathlon is comprised of a quarter-mile swim, a 14.85-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run, while the duathlon is made up of a 2-mile beach run for the swim, and then joins the triathlon course for the 14.85-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run.
