West Nile confirmed, NH city starts mosquito spraying

The New Hampshire health director says the person has recovered but urges everyone to take precautions against mosquito bites.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Manchester officials are spraying to kill mosquitoes after New Hampshire health officials announced a city adult has the first confirmed human case of West Nile Virus in the state in two years.

Dr. Jose Montero — New Hampshire health director — says the person has recovered but urges everyone to take precautions against mosquito bites. He says there have been 41 deaths nationwide this year.

The Manchester case brings to five the total number of cases identified in New Hampshire since 2000.

Other New Hampshire communities where mosquito batches have tested positive for West Nile this year are Nashua, Salem, Seabrook, North Hampton and Brentwood.

Symptoms of West Nile can include severe headache, high fever, stiff neck and muscle weakness.
