Man's taped confession played at trial

DOVER-FOXCROFT — A 54-year-old man charged with killing his sister told police in a taped interview that he was at a "point of no return" at the time of the killing, but that he didn't follow through on plans to also kill himself.

Closing arguments are expected Friday in the jury-waived murder trial of Michael Toby, who has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

Prosecutors say Toby beat his sister, 70-year-old Rosealie Shedd, with a stick before strangling her in 2008.

According to the Bangor Daily news, Toby told police in a recording played Thursday that he moved in with his sister in Dover-Foxcroft after losing his job. He said he felt like he was "in a daze" at the time of the killing.
