OAKFIELD — Authorities say the woman found dead in a burning home in Oakfield earlier this week had been shot.
WABI-TV reports that the medical examiner Thursday officially identified the woman found Monday as 49-year-old Heidi Pratt and the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the neck. Prosecutors had previously identified Pratt as a victim.
Her companion, 51-year-old Michael Kitchen, also found dead in the home they shared, died from multiple gunshots wounds.
Matthew Davis of Houlton is charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths. He is being held without bail and awaiting the appointment of an attorney. He has not entered a plea.
Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the slayings and the relationship between the suspect and the victims.
