PORTLAND — Northeast Patients Group has secured a lease that will allow it to operate a medical marijuana dispensary in Portland’s downtown.

Executive Director Becky DeKeuster confirmed today that Northeast Patients Group plans to operate a dispensary at 685 Congress St. near Longfellow Square.

DeKeuster said her nonprofit organization still must obtain site plan approval from the city’s Planning Board as well as a certificate of registration from the state.

Patients will be able to come to the dispensary to obtain medical marijuana as well as have the opportunity to participate in yoga classes, get a massage, or have acupuncture treatments.

“We really want to try to build community in each of our dispensaries,” she said.

Northeast opened a dispensary last month in Thomaston, is developing a dispensary on Water Street in Hallowell, and is in the process of negotiating a lease for a fourth dispensary in the Bangor-Brewer area.
