NASHUA, N.H. — A New Hampshire house has exploded and burst into flames, killing one person. A firefighter has been injured trying to put out the flames.

Neighbors in Nashua reported hearing an explosion and seeing flames and heavy smoke coming from the single-family home Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters say it took more than 40 minutes to knock down the bulk of the fire. They say the fire was strong enough to damage other homes, including at least one whose siding melted.

Fire Deputy Karl Gerhard says a firefighter suffered minor injuries tackling the blaze but has been treated and is back on duty.

Authorities haven’t released any information about the person who died.

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined. The state fire marshal’s office is among the agencies investigating.
