NH officer honored for rescue during Stratham shootout

STRATHAM, N.H. — A New Hampshire police officer has been honored for rescuing two officers caught in the line of fire at a shootout that killed the Greenland police chief.

The Portsmouth Herald reports Police Officer Charles Law of Stratham was given the department's Medal of Valor on Monday.

During the April 12 shooting, Law drove his vehicle toward two wounded officers, pulled them into the cruiser as shots were fired and brought them to an ambulance.

The officers, University of New Hampshire Detective Eric Kulberg and Rochester Detective Jeremiah Murphy, were part of drug task force trying to serve a warrant at the home of Cullen Mutrie. Police said Mutrie opened fire, wounding both and two other officers. Killed was Greenland Police Chief Michael Maloney. Mutrie killed himself and a companion.
