MANCHESTER, N.H. — New Hampshire’s largest utility is asking customers to be wary of a scam involving prepaid “Green Dot” VISA credit cards.
Public Service of New Hampshire says callers claiming to represent PSNH may tell customers their service is scheduled to be shut off, then advise them to make a payment by purchasing the card.
Customers are then asked to call another phone number where information is obtained from the credit card and the monetary value is removed from it.
The utility says PSNH customer service representatives will always be able to provide the name on the account, the account address and the exact past due balance. If the caller can’t provide that information, the call isn’t from a PSNH employee.
Customers should report such incidents to police and PSNH at 1-800-662-7764.
