YARMOUTH — Exit 15 northbound will reopen and a new on-ramp will open on I-295 on Monday, state transportation officials said.

The Maine Department of Transportation said the reopening meets a goal of having the northbound part of the interchange reopened before the Yarmouth Clam Festival, which begins July 19.

“Being back open before the Fourth of July is a win-win result for everyone,” Ted Talbot, MDOT’s spokesman, said in a statement.

Work on the ramps began in March, and motorists in the meantime have had to use either Exit 10 in Falmouth or Exit 17 farther north in Yarmouth to reach U.S. Route 1 in the area.

MDOT is continuing to work around the interchange with a 300-vehicle Park & Ride commuter lot, a relocation of the southbound exit 15 on-ramp and adjustments to the southbound exit 15 off-ramp.

MDOT said it expects to have all the interchange work around mile 15 done by November, weather permitting.
