BANGOR — Northern Maine is getting attention as a top travel destination.
Travel publisher Lonely Planet this week named northern Maine to its list of Top 10 U.S. travel destinations for 2013, for its moose, whitewater rafting and hiking.
In its listing, Lonely Planet said Maine is more than just lobster rolls, lighthouses and rocky shoreline, but also has Mount Katahdin, Baxter State Park, Moosehead Lake, rafting on the Kennebec River and multiday canoe trips.
The travel website Livability.com has put Bangor on its list of the Top 10 winter destination cities, calling it one of America's hottest cold cities.
