PORTLAND — It looks like Old Man Winter is dishing out too much for the Maine Polar Dip.
The approaching snowstorm, which prompted a rare blizzard warning for the coast, prompted organizers to postpone the annual event at Portland's East End Beach to benefit Camp Sunshine.
The charity event for the camp for kids with life-threatening illnesses draws participants from across Maine, and organizers decided to cancel because of nasty travel conditions.
The Maine Polar Dip will now be held on Saturday, March 2. The goal is to raise more than $30,000, enough to send 15 Maine families to Camp Sunshine.
