OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Seven candidates will run for three open seats on the Town Council in the first town election since Old Orchard Beach voters removed six of the seven councilors from office in June.

All seven, including two incumbents, are familiar in local politics.

Richard Greenlee, Ryan Kelly and Michael Tousignant are running for the seat being vacated by Roxanne Frenette, who was elected in June’s recall election. Frenette has served on the council previously.

All three candidates for her seat ran for council during the historic recall vote but lost to other replacement candidates.

Tousignant was a town councilor from 2008 to 2012 and ran in the recall election to replace Councilor Robin Dayton. Greenlee also ran to replace Dayton.

Kelly lost to Frenette in a race to serve the rest of recalled Councilor Laura Bolduc’s term.

The winner of the seat in the election Nov. 5 will serve a one-year term, which was added when the council expanded from five to seven members in 2012.

Four candidates are seeking to fill two seats that carry three-year terms. Incumbents Shawn O’Neill and Kenneth Blow are running for re-election while John Bird and Mark Koenigs are seeking to get onto the council.

O’Neill, the current chairman, was elected in the recall election. He has served a total of 14 years on the Town Council. Blow also was elected in June.

Bird, who served on the council in the 1970s, is on the town’s Finance Committee and Conservation Commission, and previously served as vice chairman of the Charter Review Commission.

Koenigs is on the Planning Board and the Conservation Commission.

The deadline for nomination papers was Monday.
