Assistant Town Manager Louise Reid, who was contacted Tuesday nght, said she heard about the recognition from Joel Golder, who owns Palace Playland.

“We tend to associate New England with quiet stretches of beach, but the boardwalk in Old Orchard Beach is an exception, with a full-blown amusement park, Palace Playland, right by the ocean," Fox News writes on its website.

"You’ll find easy rides for the kiddies, family-friendly water rides, and the crazy adrenaline junkie stuff too," it says.

Reid said the boardwalk extends from the town pier to the Brunswick, a local bar and restaurant.

Also mentioned on Fox News' most "awesome" boardwalk list were: Navy Pier in Chicago, Atlantic City Boardwalk, Coney Island in Brooklyn, N.Y., Hampton (N.H.) Beach Boardwalk and the Disney World Boardwalk at Walt Disney World in Florida.
