PORTLAND — James Yeomans and Kristen Desrosiers were the first male and female swimmers to complete the Cyrus Hagge Peaks to Portland Swim, a 2.4-mile open-water crossing of Casco Bay.

Peaks to Portland winner James Yeomans of Bethlehem, Pa., leads the pack to East End Beach today. Yeomans, last year's runner-up, finished in 43:28.

Yeomans, a 47-year-old from Bethlehem, Pa., was the first swimmer to complete the swim from Peaks Island to Portland's East End Beach, finishing in 43 minutes, 28 seconds.
Desrosiers, a 20-year-old from Gorham who will be a junior at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., was the first female finisher in 46.59.1. This is the second year Desrosiers has been the first female finisher – in 2010, she completed the swim in 48:03.
279 swimmers participated in the event, in its 30th year.
