HAMPTON, N.H. — A new report says New Hampshire's Hampton Beach State Park and Wallis Sands Beach in Rye are among the safest beaches for swimming in the country.
They are among 12 beaches nationwide to receive a five-star rating for their water quality from the Natural Resources Defense Council in its annual "Testing the Waters" report.
This makes the fifth year in a row that Hampton Beach has been honored.
The report said New Hampshire ranked No. 2 in beach water quality out of 30 states. The number of days when New Hampshire beaches were closed or advisories issued dropped from 16 in 2010 to nine in 2011.
