HERMON – A Pan Am Railways train derailed Friday evening, but officials said there were no signs of anything leaking from the two cars that tipped over.
A box car and tanker car tipped over and fell off the track, according to a deputy with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office said. It wasn’t immedately clear what caused the derailment.
The deputy said police and firefighters went to the scene, but found no reason to remain.
“There was no emergency,” the deputy said.
A Pan Am Railways worker in the company’s operations center confirmed that it was a Pan Am train that derailed. He said he could not comment further and would ask a company spokeswoman to call the Press Herald.
