FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The New England Patriots have released defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene, offensive lineman Kyle Hill and placekicker Chris Koepplin.
Fanene, who spent the past seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, had been slowed in training camp by injury and sat out both of the Patriots' exhibition games so far. In 71 games with the Bengals, 17 of them starts, he had 103 tackles and 13 1/2 sacks. He had six sacks in 2009 and 6 1/2 last year. Fanene, a seventh-round draft pick of the Bengals in 2005, was limited by injury to two games in 2010.
Hill, a rookie free agent from Duke, and Koepplin, in his second training camp with the Patriots after two seasons at UMass, were longshots to make the team.
