A sailor, a pilot and a soldier salute the remains of Staff Sergeant Eric Shaw, 31, Tuesday at the Augusta State Airport as his casket is escorted from a jet by the Maine Army National Guard’s Honor Guard. Shaw, of Exeter, was killed in action on June 27 in Afghanistan while serving with the 101st Airborne Division during his third combat tour. Public visiting hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Plummer Funeral Home in Augusta. A private funeral service for immediate family and friends will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Memorial contributions to assist the Shaw family may be made to Maine Education Credit Union, P.O. Box 1096, Augusta, ME 04330.
