Nestle Waters North America in Hollis has delivered millions of bottles of Poland Spring water to the Boston area where 2 million residents have been without clean water since a water main break over the weekend.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, which contracted with the company to provide emergency water, requested the help. The company delivered 21 truckloads of water and expects to deliver 40 truckloads more in the next two days.
Residents in Boston and 30 surrounding communities have been told by health officials to boil water or use bottled water for brushing teeth, washing vegetables and for consumption until the water quality can be returned to normal, which is expected later this week.

Thank goodness for Poland Spring. They are really helping to save the day! And to think that Boston had wanted to outlaw bottled water. I think they've learned thier lesson.

If Boston had "learned their lesson", they and every other water district wouldn't wait for their 50...75...sometimes 100+ year-old waterlines to break before replacing them.

Re-routing a truck going south to Boston costs them very little but worth many thousands in PR, the best kind of advertising.

Oh please, you don't actually think they're doing this for free?? Nestle Waters is making a killing off from this and sucking up all of our FREE Maine water to do it.

oh, and by the way, Nestle Waters... which now owns Poland Springs... is a subsidiary of Nestlé S.A., which is the largest nutrition and foods company in the world,[2] founded and headquartered in Vevey, Switzerland. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nestl%C3%A9

Nestle has owned poland spring for years mickie,Nestle owns perrier who owned it before nestle waters was formed. It's all the same company and people, they just keep changing the names.Poland Spring is not a Maine company and has not been since the 70's as far as I know.I worked at the plant in poland from 1998-2005.It is a very sleazy group that runs the place as hundreds of former employees could tell you.....

If we were in Seattle and some company wanted to come in and take the trees and process them into lumber do you think the state would just GIVE them the trees? Same question for Tennesee but for the coal and natural gas. Alaska and the oil, Free? Don't think so but yet we fall all over ourselves under the premise that it provides jobs to the local communities. Meanwhile Nestle makes BILLIONS off the water that it extracts for free from the state of Maine. Just think, if they were forced to pay 5 cents for every gallon the withdrew and then resold for some obscene profits, the financial issues for the state of Maine would a lot better.

I was just wondering if this was free water they were taking to boston. If so than poland spring deserves a pat on the back for doing something good.If not than it's a pretty sleazy company to be doing this for the money and the pr they would be getting.

"Pinecone said... If we were in Seattle and some company wanted to come in and take the trees and process them into lumber do you think the state would just GIVE them the trees?" All you that have wells think about this. You are taking the people's water for free. All you that are cutting trees from you back lot for firewood I think Pinecone thinks you should pay for them...it's the people's trees. Of course there is an exception for the water under Pinecone's lot and the trees on his/her lot if he/she actually owns any property.

Billy-I can see who signs your paychecks...There is an enormous difference between domestic use and commercial harvesting. If you can't see the difference I'm not going to be the one to explain it to you.
