The leak was contained to the immediate area.

From staff reports

SOUTH PORTLAND — Police are investigating an overnight hit-and-run incident that caused a fuel leak at a gas station this morning.

The Irving station at 700 Main St. was closed this morning after the damage to the pump was discovered. Approximately 20 to 50 gallons leaked out after the pumps were activated this morning, according to Lt. Todd Bernard.

The leak was contained to the immediate area. Personnel from the Fire Department, the state Department of Environmental Protection and Clean Harbors, a South Portland company that deals with hazardous waste spills, were at the scene, Bernard said.
