Police investigate homicide on Allen Avenue

PORTLAND — A 22-year-old man from New York was shot and killed early today at an apartment complex he was living in on Allen Avenue in Portland.

Portland Police responded to an apartment at 55 Allen Ave. around 3:40 a.m. early today after a 911 caller reported one person had been shot. Police found the victim in the apartment. Emergency rescue workers provided medical aid, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neighbors say after the shooting, a man was seen running behind the apartment buildings. Police  searched for suspects in the immediate area, but none were found.

Detectives have tentatively identified the victim and have contacted his next of kin, but his name was not been released.

The Medical Examiners Office will conduct an autopsy.

Police were posted outside the apartment’s two entrances this morning. Several children peeked out the windows of the multi-unit apartment complex. A woman who neighbors say lived upstairs from the victim declined to comment.
